Unlock Your Band’s Potential: Daily Promotion Secrets (Day 1 Challenge!)
Okay, so you’re in a band. Awesome! You’re making music, which is even more awesome. But here’s the real question: are people actually hearing it? We all know that killer songs alone aren’t enough these days. You gotta put in the work to get those ears buzzing.
That’s why we’re kicking off a little “Daily Promotion Secrets” thing. No huge commitments, just small, manageable wins that add up over time. Think of it as a musical workout, but instead of flexing muscles, you’re flexing your promo game.
Today’s Challenge: Conquer Your Local Hashtag (15 Minutes Max!)
Yep, that’s it. Simple, right? Here’s what to do:
-
Figure out your location-based hashtags. Think beyond just “#yourcity”. What are people actually using to find cool stuff near you? Try combinations like:
- #YourCityMusic
- #YourCityLiveMusic
- #YourCityBands
- #YourCityLocalMusic
- #YourCityGigs
Hit up Instagram, Twitter, and even TikTok and start searching! See what’s trending, who’s using what, and get a feel for the landscape.
-
Post something engaging, related to those hashtags. This isn’t about just blasting “Listen to our song!” Think visually. Post a cool pic of your band during rehearsal, a short video clip of a killer riff, or even just a cool graphic with your band name and upcoming show. Make sure the image looks as good as possible.
-
Include at least three location-based hashtags in your post. Don’t be afraid to use more if they feel relevant!
-
Engage with ONE other post using the same hashtags. Comment on someone else’s post, give them a like, show some love. This is about building community, not just self-promotion.
Why this works:
- It’s discoverable: You’re putting your music in front of people who are already looking for local music.
- It’s targeted: No point reaching people in Sweden if you’re playing a show next week in Chicago, right?
- It’s manageable: 15 minutes is all you need.
Bonus Points:
- Use a scheduling tool like Buffer or Hootsuite to schedule posts for later in the week using different hashtags.
- Check out what other local musicians are doing on social media for inspiration.
That’s it for today! Don’t overthink it, just do it. Tomorrow, we’ll tackle another quick win to get your band noticed. Now go forth and hashtag! And we will see you back here tomorrow!
