Meet the Space Cowgirl
A Texas original with one boot in the stars.
Born into a world of spacecraft and song—the daughter of a physicist and rocket scientist—Jerialice Ars earned “The Space Cowgirl” the honest way. Her musical path runs through Austin’s cosmic-cowboy and punk-era scene, the Beat Meters and Chickadiesels, backing vocals and bongos with Joe King Carrasco, and decades of writing, recording, and performing across Texas.
After moving to the Hill Country, she built RiverSounds Recording Resort and expanded her work as an engineer, producer, and mentor. Her own recordings carry that hands-on authorship: she writes, plays, arranges, engineers, and produces, blending West Texas imagery, roots music, faith, humor, and the kind of left-turn lyric that makes a listener lean in.
Jerialice calls the original side of her sound “Holy Folk Rock.” Onstage, she can move from those originals into blues, country, folk, bluegrass, gospel, and rock favorites—from Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash to Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan, Glen Campbell, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and The Byrds.

Jerialice’s story is a through-line across Austin music history, Texas songwriting, independent recording, and the Hill Country community.
1972
Joined her first band after beginning piano in grade school and writing songs in high school.
1979+
Entered Austin’s cosmic-cowboy and punk-era scene, later performing with the Beat Meters and Chickadiesels.
1987
Beat Meters earned Austin Music Awards runner-up recognition for Best New Music; Mistress of Meter was a Best Tape runner-up.
1998
Made the Texas Hill Country home and developed RiverSounds as a recording and creative retreat.
2016
Released the ten-song Prodigal Daughter, written, produced, and engineered by Jerialice.
2019
Released the five-song After the Flood following the historic Llano River flood and recovery.
2025
Returned to Marfa for the Marfa Lights Festival and was selected as a Dallas Songwriters Song Contest judge.
Now
